Crews battled two large brush fires in Contra Costa County on Monday, CAL FIRE said. The fires burned in Rodeo and near Alamo.
Alarms rang through Rodeo and Crockett Tuesday night-- an eerie after-effect of the mid-afternoon explosion at nearby NuStar.
After a seven-hour battle, crews have contained a fire at the NuStar energy facility in the East Bay. Two tanks, one of which collapsed, caught fire sending large plumes of black smoke into the air that could be seen in the area and in other parts of the Bay Area.
Satellite images from Google Earth show 11 big white tanks in two rows side by side at the facility in Crockett. Other tanks are scattered to the side. Two tanks caught fire sending flames and smoke shooting into the air. Take a look at what the facility looked like before the fire.
A witness sent us video of the explosion that shows a massive fireball that sent the roof of a tank flying into the air and floating back to the earth.
