Brother of late Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla sues sister for $1M over estate, documents show

NUECES COUNTY, Texas -- The brother of the late singer Selena Quintanilla has filed a lawsuit against his sister and the production companies she manages for more than $1 million over the Tejano star's estate, according to court documents obtained by ABC13.

The civil lawsuit was filed last week in Nueces County, where, according to the lawsuit, both Abraham "A.B." Quintanilla III and Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga reside.

A.B. is suing Suzette along with Q Production, Inc. and Q Productions, Inc., two companies created to manage Selena's entertainment affairs after her death, the lawsuit states.

The suit also states that Selena's father created Q Production, Inc. after her death in 1995, while Suzette created Q Productions, Inc. in 2025.

Both companies manage Selena's name, image, voice, likeness, commercial ventures, legacy, and other intellectual property, according to the lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, A.B. says he is entitled to 25% of the profits made by the companies' business under the "Estate Properties Agreement," a family agreement signed months after Selena's death.

In spring 2025, the lawsuit states that A.B. discovered he had not received all the money he was entitled to and asked Suzette and her companies to provide enough financial information to determine how much he was owed.

A.B. alleges that he was never provided with that information and that he was never paid the full amount he is allegedly owed.

The lawsuit alleges that Suzette breached the contract of Selena's estate because A.B. was not given his fair share of profits and because financial records were not provided to him.

A.B. is seeking over $1 million in unpaid profits and proceeds, accounting related to Selena's estate from 2016 to the present, and attorney fees and court costs, among other requests.

A joint statement made on Selena's official Facebook account by Suzette and her mother, Marcella Quintanilla, on Sept. 2, days before the lawsuit was officially filed, addresses public statements made by A.B.

"A.B. refers repeatedly to "years" of family circumstances, "facts," and "evidence" while making serious insinuations concerning Suzette, his father, and this family," the statement reads in part. "Those insinuations are false."

"There was no theft by Suzette. Suzette has not stolen, misappropriated, or improperly taken money or property belonging to A.B., Abraham, Marcella, Chris, Selena's estate, or any family-owned or jointly-owned business," the statement reads in part.

The statement also addresses A.B.'s statements on their father, Abraham.

"If he is alleging wrongdoing by Abraham, he should clearly state what he is alleging rather than leaving the public to speculate about a man who is no longer here to respond for himself," the statement reads.
