CA lawmakers considering bill that could slash PG&E rates by 30%, pay out wildfire victims

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Relief could be coming to your PG&E bill.

State lawmakers are considering legislation that could lower bills by 30%.

The bill would also ensure survivors of PG&E-caused fires receive their full settlements.

A Santa Rosa survivor of the 2017 Tubbs Fire is leading the 'Utility Wildfire Survivor Coalition.'

"If I went ahead, and I had burned somebody's house down, they would be holding me accountable. They'd be garnishing my wages. They would be making sure I paid my victims. We are not asking anything less than that," said Will Abrams.

If the bill passes, the CPUC would need to come up with recommendations to cut ratepayers' electricity costs and assess how much money companies owe fire victims.

PG&E say it's committed to delivering safe, reliable energy at the lowest possible cost.
