'Coven Academy' drops official trailer showing witches and vampires ahead of the Oct. 1 premiere
Maline Pauli Weissman and Malachi Barton star in a magical world with dark secrets lurking around every corner
Who ever said that magic made life easier?
The official trailer for "Coven Academy" just dropped, and things are anything but magical for these witches. When Briar (Maline Pauli Weissman) moves from New York to the heart of New Orleans, she's thrust into a world where the impossible can be made possible - for good or for evil.
"The reason why you're here," head of the school Miss Graves (Tiffani Thiessen) says, "to learn the craft of magic."
Briar has a school record of being a troublemaker, refusing to take orders from anyone else. But with her newly discovered powers, any outburst becomes an explosion of magic. If she wants to forge her own path, she'll first have to learn how to harness her gifts.
"I don't really know how to control my powers yet," Briar says.
"Happens to all of us!" fellow witch Tegan (Ora Duplass) says. "You were sent here for a reason."
But magic isn't just something to be learned. In the shadows of the magical world lie dark forces, planning for the best time to strike and take power. Against them, magic is the only way to survive.
"The skills you learn at Coven Academy can battle all evil," another witch Sasha (Jordan Leftwich) says.
The three witches, Briar, Tegan and Sasha make up their own coven to help each other develop their powers, and have each other's back in the ruthless school.

"Being a witch is about sisterhood," Tegan says. "About trust."
Not everyone has friendly motives though. Briar takes an interest in Jake (Malachi Barton), a warlock with an edge similar to Briar who tries to help her navigate the darker parts of the magical realm. And then there's Ollie (Louis Thresher)...the vampire.
"Getting close to a vampire puts us all at risk," Tegan pleads with Briar.
With dark plots looming and heartstrings quickly getting tangled, the coven will have to rely on their skills and each other to make it out alive.
"Coven Academy" premieres Oct. 1 on Freeform at 8:00 p.m. EDT/PDT, and streaming the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.
