Crane truck operator dies after struck by box truck while repairing streetlight in San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Police say a box truck struck a crane truck in San Jose Tuesday morning causing a worker inside of the bucket to fall.
It happened around 10:30 a.m. under an overpass at Hillsdale Avenue near Guadalupe Parkway.
Police say the crane truck employee was inside of the bucket repairing a streetlight.
They later died at a hospital.
The city confirms the victim was a Department of Transportation employee.
San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan wrote in part on X, "We are sad to share that a member of our City of San Jose family lost his life today while serving the public."
The box truck driver remained on scene, and spoke with investigators.
The crane truck employee has not been identified.
