SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- San Jose Fire Department says crews responded to a second-alarm residential structure fire on the 2000 block of Santiago Avenue that broke out around 1 p.m. Wednesday.
SJFD says two homes were involved with "compromised gas meters fueling the fire."
One dog was rescued in the incident, and no injuries were reported, according to SJFD.
PG&E has secured the gas lines, and the fire was put out just before 2 p.m.
A representative from Smith Elementary School, located next door, told ABC7 Eyewitness News that students and faculty were sheltering in place while crews responded to the incident. Evacuations were in place for neighboring homes Wednesday afternoon as crews dealt with fumes.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
