MOSS LANDING, Calif. -- The Monterey County Sheriff's Office has issued shelter-in-place orders Friday morning because of a fire at the Moss Landing Power Plant.

The Sheriff's Office, as of 7:30 a.m., issued the order for an area within a third of a mile from the battery energy storage facility at 7301 state Highway 1.

CAL FIRE BEU

People are being told to go indoors immediately and remain inside until further notice as a precaution due to possible smoke or hazardous materials from the fire, sheriff's officials said.

A large fire in January 2025 at the Vistra facility in Moss Landing forced the temporary evacuation of more than a thousand residents.
