Netanyahu blasts Mamdani on social media ahead of visit to New York for UN

NEW YORK -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took aim at New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Tuesday, posting a video on social media ahead of his visit to New York for the United Nations General Assembly.

In the video, Netanyahu responded to Mamdani's recent comments regarding the Israeli leader.

"Shame on you for inciting riots against New York Jews. I'm coming to the U.N. I'm going to tell the truth about our heroic soldiers, and I'm going to tell the truth about you," Netanyahu said.

The mayor's office denied claims that Mamdani supports Hamas or incited riots against Jewish people.

The remarks came after Mamdani doubled down on his call for Netanyahu to be arrested for war crimes.

Earlier Tuesday, Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon also addressed the dispute while arriving at the United Nations, saying the mayor should focus on running New York City rather than the Israeli prime minister.

The exchange unfolded a day after President Donald Trump met with Mamdani at Gracie Mansion. The political rivals publicly praised one another following the meeting, citing a shared love for New York City. The two discussed topics including public safety and housing and spoke about working together despite being on opposite sides of the political aisle.

Following the meeting, Mamdani appeared on CNN, where he again stated his belief that Netanyahu is a war criminal and said he would like to see federal authorities arrest the Israeli prime minister.

"When it comes to Benjamin Netanyahu, I have described him as I believe him to be, a war criminal and an architect of a horrific genocide of the Palestinian people," Mamdani said.

The escalating war of words comes as world leaders gather in New York for the United Nations General Assembly. Trump addressed the assembly Tuesday, speaking on a range of issues including the global economy, the conflict involving Iran and concerns surrounding artificial intelligence.

There are no plans for a meeting between Trump and Netanyahu during the U.N. gathering. Trump is scheduled to meet later Tuesday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with additional events planned throughout the day.
