Magnitude 5.7 earthquake strikes Nevada along with several aftershocks

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. (KGO) -- A preliminary magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Silver Springs, Nevada, on Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake was reported at 6:29 p.m. in the Carson City area and had a depth of about 6 miles, according to the agency.

It has since been downgraded to 5.5.

There are reports of the earthquake felt in Lake Tahoe and even the San Francisco Bay Area.

There have been several aftershocks.

USGS said the epicenter was about 11 miles southeast of Silver Springs, Nevada, in Lyon County. Silver Springs is a little over 60 miles southeast of Reno.

There have been no immediate reports of damage.
