'Mouth of the Wolf: Amanda Knox Returns to Italy' is streaming now on Hulu

It was a meeting years in the making...Amanda Knox, coming face-to-face with Giuliano Mignini, the Italian prosecutor who put her behind bars for murder. The story behind the decision to meet is documented in "Mouth of the Wolf: Amanda Knox Returns to Italy."
"This entire story is me being conflicted with the question of like, how much do I want to hold onto the past when I am pushing to have a better future and a better relationship with my past," Knox told On The Red Carpet.
Knox's story has been widely reported. In 2009, she was wrongly convicted of murdering her roommate, Meredith Kercher, in Italy while studying abroad. She was sentenced to 26 years in prison and spent four years behind bars before the conviction was overturned and she was exonerated by the highest court in 2015. She was able to return to the United States, but her legal woes are still ongoing to this day.
Most recently, Knox executive produced a limited series on her story called "The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox," which is currently streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
Knox's husband Christopher Robinson filmed and directed the documentary and gives viewers an up close and personal look as Knox grapples with the decision to go back to Italy, an opportunity that came about after she was invited to give a keynote speech there for The Innocence Project.
"When I began filming her as this idea of returning to Italy was put in front of her, I knew that something momentous was happening, but we didn't really know what. And it wasn't until she delivered that keynote speech in Italy and made a very public overture to the prosecutor that things really started driving toward that face-to-face meeting," Robinson said.
Knox and Robinson married in 2020 and knew they wanted to start a family. But she realized she needed to deal with things in her past before she could move on.
"I was in prison and my opportunity to be a mother was stolen from me. And then when I was released, it was given back to me and I was so happy because I've always wanted to be a mom. But then once I actually was becoming a mom and I had a human being growing inside of me, I realized that my unresolved trauma was like a poison that was inside of me that I needed to get out of me. I didn't want to unintentionally pass on any of the like, pain or shame or fear that I had been harboring in my body for so long. And being the vessel through which another human being comes into this life... it gave me this sense of urgency to confront my past," she said. "I was determined to confront Giuliano and the sharing in that journey as well has been a huge point of connection for us. He's a father of four daughters, he's a family man and it's another point of connection for us that was not anticipated."
Watching Knox navigate the traumas that were a part of her adult life was something Robinson learned from.
"Amanda has been able to walk this line of staring down the people who harmed her and not letting them off the hook, but also not raging at them. She's found a way to extend an olive branch and to be passionate while also holding them to account. And for me, that really set an example of how I could confront difficult relationships in my own life," he said.
