Magnitude 2.7 quake shakes Pinole area, USGS says

PINOLE, Calif. (KGO) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.7 struck near Pinole at 3:55 p.m. Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake measured at a depth of 5.8 kilometers.

The closer to the surface an earthquake starts, the more ground shaking and potential damage it will cause.

People typically report feeling earthquakes larger than about magnitude 2.5, according to the USGS.

No injuries or major damage have been reported.
