Driver accused of hitting, injuring SFPD officer arrested: police

SAN FRANCISCO -- Police in Oakland pursued and arrested a suspect who allegedly struck a police officer from San Francisco with their car and fled Tuesday afternoon.

Just before 4 p.m., San Francisco police officers assigned to the Community Violence Reduction Team, or CVRT, tried to stop a wanted suspect in a car in the 800 block of 47th Street in Oakland. CVRT is a branch of SFPD that focuses on reducing gun violence.

While police attempted to detain the suspect, the driver allegedly hit an SFPD officer with their car while trying to flee.

Oakland police pursued the car and took the driver and passengers into custody. At one point, the suspects apparently fled on foot and tried to carjack another vehicle.

The injured officer was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact SFPD by calling (415) 575-4444 or by texting a tip to TIP411, beginning the message with "SFPD."
