Investigators have not identified the man who died, but family and friends tell ABC7 Eyewitness News he was Luis Ramirez, who went by "Luigi."
He moved to San Pablo 14 years ago from El Salvador.
A coworker says Ramirez's death is a major loss.
"He was full of joy, full of life. I mean, he was already going to church and doing his stuff that he needed to do, so it's very unfortunate, everything that has happened -- especially the way that it happened," said Amber Galvez.
A Salvadoran restaurant where Ramirez worked is hosting a benefit for his family on Wednesday.
