Stanfordnamed Davis Warren, a transfer from Michigan, as its starting quarterback to open the 2026 season.
New Cardinal coach Tavita Pritchard announced the decision Tuesday, telling reporters that Warren's preparation and dedication to the finer details of the position helped him land the job. Warren, who started nine games for Michigan in 2024, had been competing with senior Dylan Rizk, freshman Michael Mitchell Jr. and others in camp.
The Cardinal open the season Aug. 29 against Hawai'i at home before hosting national runner-up Miami on Sept. 4, which will mark both teams' ACC opener.
"He's dedicated and committed to not just who he is as a player, but how he can affect others as a leader, as the quarterback," said Pritchard, a former Stanford quarterback. "I'm really excited for him."
Warren led Michigan with 1,119 passing yards and seven touchdowns with nine interceptions in 2024. He tore the ACL in his right knee in Michigan's bowl game against Alabama and sat out the 2025 season before transferring to Stanford in January.
