Timelaspe video shows last sunrise in Alaskan city for next 84 days

The United States's most northerly city, Utqiagvik, saw its last sunrise for more than two months on Sunday, May 10.

Timelapse footage released by the National Weather Service (NWS) shows the sun set at 1:48 am before it rose above the horizon at 2:57 am. The sun won't set again for 84 days until August 2.

The NWS said the weather event is due to Earth's tilt pointing the northern hemisphere toward the sun, causing daylight hours to rapidly increase across northern Alaska, with some communities seeing endless daylight.

Utqiagvik is located more than 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle. The city has a population of around 4,500 people.
