Bystanders chase down suspect after stolen Tesla speeds down boardwalk in San Diego

Good Samaritans gave chase in San Diego on Monday afternoon after a suspected car thief hit a woman on a boardwalk and tried to run off.

The incident happened after a man allegedly stole a Tesla and drove onto the boardwalk in Pacific Beach. Part of the ordeal was recorded on smart glasses worn by one of the impromptu vigilantes.

"I hear somebody behind me just scream like, ‘Watch out.’ And then I look and there's like a Tesla just barreling at me going like 70 miles an hour,” said AlexSrour.

The Tesla was tracked by its owner through the car’s app, according to police.

When police first tried to pull the man over, the suspect fled before crashing into a transformer and hitting a 25-year-old woman, who was seriously injured.

The suspect's image was captured running from the scene on Srour's smart glasses.

Srour said he was almost hit, too.

“He hit my bike and it like pushed me really, it like launched me off to the side.” said Srour.

Srour and another bystander raced to tackle and restrain the suspect until police arrives.

“People don't expect a car to come through the boardwalk like it's just not normal,” Srour said. “I think, I was at like in the right place at the right time.”
