ICE officers not wearing body cameras during deadly Houston ICE shooting, DHS says, as family pushes for answers

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were not wearing body-worn cameras during thedeadly ICE shootingof a Mexican national during an operation in Houston this week, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
The officers were "not issued" body-worn cameras, according to a DHS spokesperson, who pointed to two partial government shutdowns -- one in the fall of 2025 and the other one earlier this year -- for the delay in issuing them to ICE law enforcement officers.
"The process of purchasing and issuing body-worn cameras to all of our ICE field offices was interrupted by the Democrats multiple government shutdowns," the spokesperson said. "Body cameras have been deployed to more than half the field offices with the remaining half to receive them in the next 60 days."
The update comes as the family of the man killed in Tuesday's shooting, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, and local officials are pushing for answers and demanding an independent and transparent investigation into the incident.
