Raw pork, beef and goat products recalled after being sold without USDA approval

WASHINGTON -- A company is recalling more than 150,000 pounds of raw pork, beef, and goat products after selling them without official food safety approval, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said.

The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall on Tuesday.

The FSIS said that any product bearing the false establishment number “EST. 1363” should be considered misbranded and unsafe to eat.

The raw pork, beef, and goat items were produced before Tuesday and were distributed in bulk under the "A&D Foods" label. Star Meat Delivery, Inc., a wholesale meat distribution company, issued the recall.

The USDA said packaging seen by individual consumers may not bear the faulty label because retailers may have applied their own stickers with pricing and safe-handling instructions.

According to officials, the products subject to recall bear false inspection marks with the establishment number “EST. 1363,” which does not have a federal grant of inspection. These items were shipped to A&D Foods, a distributor in Georgia, for further distribution to retail and restaurant locations nationwide.

The problem, the FSIS said, was discovered during regular surveillance activities, and there have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury due to the consumption of the recalled products.

The USDA said that food produced without inspection, or without approval, may contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria, or other contaminants that put people's health and safety at risk.
