Taylor Swift announces new single 'Patient Zero'

Taylor Swift has new music on the way.

The singer announced in an Instagram post on Tuesday that she is releasing a new single later this week called "Patient Zero."

"I’ve been impatiently waiting to tell you that my brand new single 'Patient Zero' will be out on September 25 (!!!!!!!!!!!!) and it’s available to pre-order now on my website for 24 hours. 0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣," she wrote.

Leading up to the reveal, Swift shared a countdown on her website.

To tease the new song, Swift changed the o's to zeroes on her Instagram bio, writing, "And, baby, that's sh0w business f0r y0u. ❤️‍🔥"

Her lyrics on Apple Music also appear to have changed the O's to zeroes for the chorus of "Life of a Showgirl."

The new single follows "I Knew It I Knew You," which she released earlier this year for "Toy Story 5."

It also follows her 12th studio album, "The Life of a Showgirl," which she released in 2025. The album included her hit songs, "The Fate of Ophelia," "Opalite" and more.

"Patient Zero" will arrive two days before she is honored at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.

CBS and MTV announced Monday that the singer will receive the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, a new award that recognizes "groundbreaking music artists whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced the art of visual storytelling."

Swift is nominated for nine awards, including video of the year and artist of the year.
