NEW YORK -- A new film already generating Oscar buzz is heading to theaters this weekend.

"Wild Horse Nine," a dark comedy from director Martin McDonagh, follows two longtime CIA agents whose mission takes them to Easter Island as something sinister unfolds around them.

The film stars John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell, alongside Steve Buscemi, Mariana Di Girolamo and Parker Posey.

Entertainment reporter Joelle Garguilo spoke with members of the cast and crew about the film, which is set in 1973 as Chile stands on the brink of a military coup.

The story centers on Chris and Lee, two CIA agents played by Rockwell and Malkovich.

The film's plot sends the two agents more than 2,000 miles into the Pacific to Easter Island. Garguilo noted some of the character's memorable lines and asked Rockwell whether there is freedom in playing someone who can say things that others might only think.

“Well, Martin always has a truth sayer,” Rockwell said.

McDonagh said he felt some nerves working with the film's lead actors.

“You're kinda naturally nervous, especially working with a god like John Malkovich. But I do feel like you'll see something in John and Sam, the best acting you'll see all year,” McDonagh said.

Posey also reflected on the experience, describing the production simply: “This was fun.”

"Wild Horse Nine" opens in theaters Friday.
