Worker killed in tower amusement ride crash at Munich Oktoberfest
Monday's accident marked the second incident involving a ride this year.
MUNICH -- A fatal accident overshadowed celebrations at the world-famous Oktoberfest in Munich where an employee at a ride died from serious injuries following an accident.
The accident happened Monday night at a so-called free-fall tower, where passengers plummet rapidly from great height in a gondola, the German news agency DPA reported Tuesday.
The 52-year-old employee at the ride was allegedly too close to the gondola, was struck and may have been crushed, local media reported.
He was resuscitated at the scene and taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died, DPA reported.
The area around the ride was cordoned off for the large-scale rescue operation, but passengers of the ride were never in any kind of danger, police said.
Monday's accident marked the second incident involving a ride this year.
