According to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, officers have received 174 bear-related calls so far this year, compared with 97 during the same period last year. The increase represents nearly an 80% rise in reported incidents.
"I spent 20 years in the Army and saw some pretty crazy things, but I never saw anything like that," the homeowner said.
If you're headed to Lake Tahoe in the coming days or weeks, don't leave food in your car. Most of the bears that had been hibernating are back out and on the move looking for food.
