Gap is closing its last East Bay store on Oakland's Lakeshore Avenue after 26 years this summer, and employees will be offered transfers to nearby locations.

Customers shouldn't expect the stores to look as they did before the coronavirus. Fitting rooms will be closed, plexiglass barriers will be added by the registers and store employees will be controlling the number of people allowed in stores.
Gap Inc. announced Monday that it will furlough the majority of its store employees in U.S. and Canada, as well as some corporate workers as a result of the extension of the store closures due to COVID-19.
Gap Inc. is hosting a 1-day event next Saturday, Oct. 5, where it will hire thousands of new seasonal employees for the 2019 holiday season.
Old Navy said it wants to reach 2,000 locations by opening stores, mostly in smaller, underserved markets.
