An 18-year-old football player is awaiting a heart transplant after Missouri's medical staff detected an issue with during freshman testing this summer.
Lawrence Faucette, 58, was ineligible for a traditional human heart transplant due to pre-existing conditions and heart disease.
Joseph Sanchez Munoz beat the odds after receiving three transplants at different points in his life, a recent heart transplant - on top of a liver and kidney transplant.
At just seven months old, Joseph was diagnosed with cancer. A liver transplant soon followed. Seven years later, a new kidney . . . and now a heart.
"He came in and he just hugged me. He had a strong hug, just like Nick did," the mother said. "And then to hear the heartbeat, it was so strong and so full of life."
The family says he was at the front of the line to receive a transplant but because he has not received the COVID-19 vaccination he is no longer eligible, according to hospital policy.
