Frenchie still missing in SJ after suspect arrested for crime spree

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- A 25-year-old San Jose man has been arrested in connection with a series of alleged crimes spanning several weeks and multiple cities, but a French bulldog reported stolen during the crime spree has not been recovered, police said.

Investigators say the incidents began in May, when the suspect allegedly forced his way into a woman's home and stole thousands of dollars in cash, other items and a dog named Lady.

"This is a serious issue. You're taking someone's loved one, a dog in this matter, and the fact that we haven't been able to find the dog is very concerning. It leaves a heavy hole in the heart for the victim. So, we want to work with the public and get any information that we can to help locate Lady," SJPD Sr. Public Information Representative Stacie Shih said.

About three weeks after the reported burglary, police said the suspect shot into a vehicle near Hillsdale Avenue. No injuries were reported.

Authorities said the city's Real-Time Intelligence Center helped identify the suspect. He was later arrested by Livermore police during a traffic stop.

"When they conducted that vehicle enforcement stop, they also located the firearm that was associated to the shooting that occurred on May 22. The suspect was booked into Santa Rita County Jail for his outstanding warrant, and a couple days later, SJPD took custody of the suspect," Shih said.

Police said the suspect was subsequently booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail. Despite the arrest, Lady has not been returned. Police described her as a gray French bulldog with a visible pink scar on her chin. Officials noted that French bulldogs have become frequent targets for theft.

"In general, when people do take other, purebred dogs, it could be sold, it could be capped, you name it. We don't know any motives or circumstances yet as it's active. An ongoing investigation for this in particular," Shih said.

The investigation remains ongoing. If you have any information about where lady might be, you're asked to contact SJPD to bring her back home.
