Sausalito city manager resigns weeks after arrest for allegedly breaking into boats at harbor
SAUSALITO, Calif. (KGO) -- Sausalito City Manager Elaine Forbes has resigned from her position less than two months after her arrest on burglary allegations during what city officials described as a mental health crisis.
Forbes was arrested in July after she was caught breaking into several boats at the Sausalito Yacht Harbor.
Sausalito Mayor Steven Woodside announced Tuesday that Forbes is no longer employed by the city.

In a statement, the mayor said Forbes is taking time to focus on her health and healing.
The Sausalito City Council unanimously appointed Brandon Phipps as interim city manager for the next six months.
Phipps has been employed by the city since 2022.
The leadership change comes in the wake of Forbes' July arrest and her subsequent departure from city government.

"Elaine Forbes has resigned from her position as City Manager. We have accepted her resignation, and she is no longer employed by the City.
Our hearts are with Elaine and her family, and we stand behind her as she takes this time to focus on her health and healing.
I want to thank the people of Sausalito for your sympathy and for your patience during this time. This was an extremely sensitive matter, and I am grateful for the respect and compassion you have shown to Elaine and her family. It is very much appreciated.
The council has, in closed session, unanimously agreed to appoint Brandon Phipps as the Interim City Manager for the next six months. Given the fact that we are in an election season and there perhaps will be some change in council going forward in the next year, it is anticipated that there will be a recruitment, and we would hope that Mr. Phipps would be a candidate. We will be returning at the next meeting, we hope, with a formal contract to that effect."
