Sources: 49ers trade Zamir White to Saints for Deion Jones
In a move to aid a running backs room impacted by injuries during training camp, the New Orleans Saints acquiredZamir White in a trade that sent veteran linebacker Deion Jones to the San Francisco 49ers, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday night.
The deal fills a short-term need for the Saints, who are thin in the backfield. Longtime starterAlvin Kamarais out for at least several weeks because of an MCL injury he suffered last week.Audric Estime (ankle) did not travel to California for the team's preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday after he injured his ankle in New Orleans' first preseason contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars. And Devin Neal has been dealing with hamstring issues during camp. He returned last week but then reinjured the hamstring Saturday, forcing him to leave against the Rams.
The Saints recently got back running backKendre Miller(back) and offseason acquisition Travis Etienne Jr., Ty Chandler and CJ Donaldsonare all healthy.
White, who signed with the 49ers in early August, had faced long odds to make the team after running backs Christian McCaffrey (tightness), Kaelon Black (adductor) and Jordan James (rib) returned from injury in the past week.
White, 26, was a fourth-round draft pick of the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022 and spent the first four seasons of his career there.
New Orleans had just signed Jones, 31, earlier this month. He was considered a long shot to make the team in an established Saints linebacker group.

Jones was selected in the second round by the Atlanta Falconsin 2016, and also spent time with the Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He started 83 games for the Falcons over six seasons and made the Pro Bowl in 2017.
Jones has a connection with 49ers defensive coordinator Raheem Morris after playing for him in Atlanta.
San Francisco already had depth at linebacker, but backup Jalen Graham has missed the past couple of days because of an injury.
