FAIRFIELD, Calif. -- A juvenile was arrested Monday in connection with a weekend Fairfield shooting that left a pregnant woman dead and sent six people to the hospital, where one remains in critical condition.
The shooting broke out at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Spirit Halloween store at Solano Town Center mall as shoppers were buying last-minute costumes for Halloween.
Police arrested a 17-year-old boy in Suisun City on suspicion of the crime and believe he entered the store, observed an individual who police believe to have been the intended target, and began shooting.
At a press conference Monday, police said they identified the suspect within hours of the shooting. He was arrested Monday at a residence in the 800 block of Harrier Drive in Suisun City.
One woman, 31-year-old Constance Hages, who was pregnant, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Six other people were wounded, including six males, aged 43, 32, 23 and 16 and two 19-year-olds. One of the 19-year-olds was still hospitalized in critical condition on Monday, according to police.
According to Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall, the suspect was also connected to a shooting from 2025. He served time in juvenile hall and was considered rehabilitated prior to release, he said.
"It's time for change in California," said Marshall. " I don't know how many more people have to be killed by youth."
The juvenile was booked on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, according to police.
